FAQs

WHAT IS SEMI PERMANENT MAKEUP?

Semi permanent makeup, otherwise known as SPMU, PMU and micropigmentation is a cosmetic tattoo treatment that enhances your natural features, like lips or brows, by implanting pigment into the skin. Results are soft, natural looking and designed to fade over time.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

You should allow 2-3 hours for your appointment. This includes mapping/design, numbing and the treatment itself. A top up appointment is usually needed 6-8 weeks later to perfect the results, this usually takes less time.

IS IT SAFE AND DOES IT HURT?

Yes, when performed by a trained and qualified artist using sterile equipment and high quality pigments. Inkglow is licensed by Durham Council.

A lidocaine based numbing cream is applied to keep you comfortable throughout the treatment. Most clients describe the sensation as mild discomfort rather than pain, often comparing it a light scratching or tingling feeling.

WHAT IS THE HEALING PROCESS LIKE?

A consultation ensures the treatment is tailored specifically to you. We'll discuss your desired look, assess your skin type, go through medical history and choose the perfect shape and colour. It's also your chance to ask questions and feel confident before going ahead.

Sometimes clients aren't suitable for the treatment, for example if there is previous tattooing that hasn't faded enough. If this is the case, laser or saline removal will be recommended before we can proceed.

Consultations can take place within the clinic or via video call. Please note if you choose the video call option, you'll still need a patch test at least 48 hours before the treatment. This can take place in the clinic or it can be posted to you.

WHY DO I NEED A CONSULATION?

Healing typically takes around 7-10 days on the surface, with full healing over 4-6 weeks.

You can expect:

Slight swelling, tenderness and a 'sunburnt' feeling immediately after

Colour appearing brighter/darker initially - this will fade by up to 50%

Light flaking or dryness as the skin heals

The colour seeming to disappear completely - this is called ghosting and the colour will return, it's just hidden by the new skin regenerating

Aftercare is super important to ensure the best healed outcome.
